Charles D. King to Receive Milestone Award at 2024 PGA Awards – IndieWire

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced that their 2024 Milestone Award would go to Charles D. King, founder and CEO of MACRO, for his contributions to the film industry. The “They Cloned Tyrone” producer will accept the award at the 35th annual Producers Guild Awards on Sunday, February 25.

Past recipients of the Milestone Award, meant to recognize producers or production teams that have made historic contributions to the entertainment industry, include 2023 recipients Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the current co-CEOs of Warner Bros., as well as Steven Spielberg, Bob Iger, Sherry Lansing, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, George Lucas, and Kathleen Kennedy, and Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. Its legacy goes far enough back to also include Hollywood legends Louis B. Mayer, Walt Disney, and Alfred Hitchcock as past recipients.

“Charles King’s achievements in our industry are undeniable whether as an agent representing important voices or as the producer responsible for the growing empire that is MACRO, a multi-platform media company that represents the voice and perspectives of Black people and persons of color,” said PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line in a joint statement about honoring the groundbreaking former William Morris Endeavor agent. “Since its inception in 2015, MACRO films have garnered 15 Oscar nominations including one for King as producer of Best Picture nominee ‘Judas and the Black Messiah.’ He continues to trailblaze with his invaluable contributions via his creative storytelling and we are proud to honor him.”

In response to the announcement, King said via statement, “Finding the words to truly capture my deep gratitude for receiving the Milestone Award from the PGA is admittingly challenging. To be acknowledged for this accomplishment and stand among the luminaries of our industry is both incredibly humbling and a profound honor. I launched MACRO nine years ago with the mission of amplifying the voices and perspectives of persons of color. I’m so proud of my colleagues and the extraordinary producers, filmmakers and artists that I have had the honor of working with over the years – together we’ve shaped MACRO into a force in the industry. We are blessed to do what we do every day, and the road ahead holds boundless promise.”

He added, “I extend my sincerest thanks to Susan Sprung, Stephanie Allain, Donald DeLine, Michelle Byrd, and the entire PGA organization for continuing to be exemplary advocates for producers. The work you do matters immensely, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this prestigious group.”

MACRO, King’s multi-platform media company representing the voices and perspectives of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color, houses multiple business verticals that finance, develop, and produce theatrical and streaming features and premium television, as well as an in-house branding and creative agency. The producer himself was both the first Black partner in WME’s 100+ year history, and later, with Ryan Coogler and “Judas and the Black Messiah” filmmaker Shaka King, part of the first ever all-Black team of nominated producers for an Academy Award.

MACRO’s projects have received 15 Oscar nominations, with three wins, a Peabody Award nomination, two Primetime Emmy nominations, six Children’s and Family Emmy Award nominations and one Grammy nomination.

The 2024 PGA Awards, where King will be joined by fellow 2024 PGA Award honoree Martin Scorsese, will take place on Sunday, February 25.
