After years of mediocrity, the Lenovo-owned Motorola brand is currently in the midst of a resurgence. Both the Razr Plus and the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) received highly positive reviews here at Android Authority and from consumers at large. This is especially encouraging for those in the US, where we have a limited selection of compelling options outside of Apple, Samsung, Google, and OnePlus. With the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) on the way, here’s everything we know about the upcoming handset.
- When is the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) expected to come out? Leaks suggest we could see the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) on April 3, 2024.
- What new features could there be for the Motorola Edge Plus (2024)? It’s believed the phone could have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or 8s Gen 3 chip. The handset could also have a smaller battery than last year.
- How much might the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) cost? There has been no information on the potential price.
Will there be a Motorola Edge Plus (2024)?

The original Motorola Edge debuted in 2020 to a rather mixed reception and has seen several follow-ups since. The Edge Plus (2023) finally propelled the series into the spotlight, delivering one of the best Motorola phones in years. While Motorola has not officially announced plans for a next-gen Edge Plus, it would be unwise not to do so.
Moreover, leaks about a Motorola Edge 50 Pro have appeared online recently. In 2023, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro went by the name Edge Plus (2023) in the US, which suggests the Edge 50 Pro is the Edge Plus (2024). Unless there is a major rebranding initiative in the works, we would confidently predict that a Motorola Edge Plus (2024) is inevitable at this point.
What is the most likely Motorola Edge Plus (2024) release date?
Ryan Haines / Android Authority
- Motorola Edge Plus (2021) — Sep 2, 2021
- Motorola Edge Plus (2022) — Aug 18, 2022
- Motorola Edge Plus (2023) — May 19, 2023
The release date for the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) is a bit challenging to predict, mainly because Motorola has been pretty inconsistent with the launch schedules for earlier models. All we can reasonably assume is that the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) will likely arrive in the spring or summer of 2024.
However, all signs are pointing to a potential April 3 launch date. Motorola confirmed that it will launch the Edge 50 Pro on the same day. The device is coming to India, and as we mentioned earlier, it could launch in the US as the Edge Plus (2024) at a later date.
This launch date was also hinted at by leaked renders, obtained by Android Headlines, of the phone that showed the date April 3 on the screen.
What will the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) look like?
There is a good chance that Motorola will play it safe and not change the design too much from last year. Based on official images of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro shared by the company, this will pretty much be the case. However, there appears to be at least one notable change between the upcoming model and the old one.
It appears Motorola will refresh the Edge Plus (2024) in a way that may or may not improve the look of the camera bump, depending on your preference. The back of the device now curves up into the camera bump, which some could say creates a more seamless look than the previous model.
As for the colors, it appears Motorola will give the line three options: matte black, matte purple, and off-white. The off-white variant, in particular, seems to have a texture overlayed, giving it an appearance reminiscent of the OnePlus 12’s Emerald colorway.
What rumored specs and features could the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) have?

While leaks and rumors for the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) haven’t been as plentiful as they have been previously for some of the best Android phones, there’s still enough information to build our expectations. Here’s what we know so far about the Edge Plus (2024)’s specs.
Motorola has confirmed that the Edge 50 Pro (which could be the Indian version of the Edge Plus 2024) will feature the following specs:
- A 6.7-inch pOLED 1.5K display with a 144Hz refresh rate.
- A peak brightness of 2,000 nits on the “world’s first Pantone-validated display.”
- A Pantone-validated triple rear camera setup led by a 50MP primary shooter.
The leak from Android Headlines previously revealed some of the same specs. However, it mentioned a refresh rate of 120Hz instead of 144Hz.
There’s no information on display features, but we’re hoping Motorola will add an always-on display. To its credit, the Edge Plus (2023) does have its own take on this: Edge Lights. While it isn’t an actual always-on display, this feature lights up the curved edges of the display with different colors when notifications come in. That’s handy, but it’s not quite as helpful as being able to see the time, date, and other key notification icons.
Motorola has never had a reputation for packing the best cameras, at least not in recent history. The good news is the Edge Plus (2023) made some in-roads here. The camera package delivered pleasing, natural colors and details in most situations. Nevertheless, it did exhibit intense green saturation on bright sunny days, and its zoom capabilities left room for improvement. Additionally, its electronic video stabilization is somewhat lacking.
It’s unclear if Motorola will improve upon this, but at least it seems we have a triple-camera setup on board. This setup is also said to consist of a wide-angle sensor at 13mm and a telephoto at 73mm.
Elsewhere, this year’s handset could be powered by a 4,500mAh battery, offering both wired (125W) and wireless charging (50W). For comparison, the Edge Plus (2023) had a 5,100mAh battery, so this would be an unfortunate downgrade.
As for the SoC, we’ll definitely see an upgrade in this area. It’s believed that the phone could be fitted with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip or the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. While it’s unknown how much storage the device will have, the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) could get 12GB of RAM.
Motorola is also marketing several new AI features for the Edge 50 Pro. One of them is a Pixel 8-and-Galaxy S24-like AI wallpaper feature that the company says will allow users to generate “unique” wallpapers using AI.
The camera system also promises “AI Enhanced Images.” You also get “AI Adaptive Stabilization” that touts “shake-free outputs & the highest clarity in 50x Hybrid Zoom.”
Should you wait for the Motorola Edge Plus (2024)?
The release of the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) is likely to be at least nine months away, and possibly even longer. That’s quite a wait, especially if your current phone is starting to age significantly and you’re ready for an upgrade sooner rather than later. If you’re in need of a new phone and enthusiastic about the company’s current direction, the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) ($699 at Amazon) is a solid device with plenty of life left in the phone. Another option might be to pick up the Google Pixel 8 ($699 at Amazon), which will offer a similar value but with a more proven track record for timely updates and support.
