Alex Edelman briefly mentions his sexuality in his award-winning comedy special Just For Us and he’s opening up about how he may focus his next show on his identity.
The 35-year-old stand-up comedian is receiving a Special Tony Award tonight for his “exemplary” Broadway debut in his one-man show Just For Us.
In the show, Alex, who grew up in a Modern-Orthodox Jewish family, says that he would identify as bisexual if he had been raised secular. Instead he is “straight with some secrets.”
In a new interview, Alex made further comments about his sexuality.

“I’m 35 and still thinking about it,” Alex told Variety. “If someone said, ‘Are you a gay or a bi comedian?’ I wouldn’t necessarily tick the box. But if someone’s like, ‘That’s a straight guy,’ I don’t know that I necessarily tick that box. I’m thinking. I’m still thinking about it, is what I’d say.”
“It’s a big line,” he added. “Maybe it’ll be a future show.”
