Ella Emhoff‘s dress she wore at the 2024 Democratic National Convention was made by a popular TikTok star, who is a fashion designer!
The 25-year-old stepdaughter to Kamala Harris took the stage on the final night, alongside her step-cousin Meena Harris and the VP’s goddaughter Helena Hudlin, on Thursday night (August 23).
The person who designed and made her dress is none other than TikToker Joe Ando Hirsh, who shared multiple videos of making the garment and a video of him reacting to seeing Ella wearing it at the convention.

“ELLA LOOKS SO GOOD!! 😭💙 @smellaemhoff,” he captioned his reaction video, where he could be seen watching the TV, then cheering. In the video, he also wrote, “watching a dress you made on national tv”
On another video, Joe said, “okay maybe this one is my fave,” referring to the dress he made for Ella.
While speaking to Daily Mail, Joe revealed he only had a week to make the dress due to other projects he was working on.
“I worked about 15 hour days for a week which included creative development, draping, patterning, sewing, trial and error and fittings with Ella,” he shared via email.
He said she wanted to work with an “independent designer” and “thought it would be a genuine creative process.”
“Ella was so happily involved and really felt the passion for the start to finish design experience,” Joe continued. “Watching her take the stage, was amazing, she looked perfect! The dress really reflected her range of style and she really popped out in such a classy way.”
Joe often shows off his custom designs on his TikTok page, sharing behind-the-scenes making them, and the finished product. He’s also made looks for Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Dakota Johnson, Rachel Zegler and Keke Palmer!
