Blumhouse Stanley Hotel Immersive Experience to Celebrate Horror Films

Anyone who has ever hoped to spend a night in a hotel room based on “The Purge” is in for a real treat this fall. From October 18 through 28, Peacock will be taking over The Stanley hotel — the Colorado resort that famously served as Stanley Kubrick’s design inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in “The Shining” — for a two day immersive horror experience that promises to integrate the past, present, and future of the horror genre.

Horror fans who make their way to Estes Park will have the opportunity to spend two nights in a room based on one of four Blumhouse movies: “The Purge,” “Insidious,” “Freaky,” and “Happy Death Day.” The interactive event will feature jump scares throughout the weekend, which might include being pulled out of bed to be terrified — though attendees can customize their experience to accommodate their tolerance for scares. Each evening will also feature exclusive screenings of new Peacock projects, including James Wan’s upcoming series “Teacup,” which is produced through Wan’s Atomic Monster production label.

The event will be the largest scale example of the ongoing collaboration between Blumhouse and the Stanley Hotel to date. Jason Blum’s massive horror production company previously announced plans to curate an ongoing horror cinema exhibit housed within the hotel in partnership with the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media.

“The Stanley Hotel is hallowed ground for horror fans and that makes this presence at the Stanley Film Center a natural extension for Blumhouse,” Blum said in a January 2024 statement. “Fans are going to get closer than ever before to their favorite films, though they may want to keep their distance with a few of the ‘items’ in our collection. We’re excited to get to work, but first we need to make it out of the hedge maze.”

Attendees will be greeted by a ”conci-scare-ge” (all puns courtesy of Blumhouse) and will continue throughout the weekend with encounters of various characters and frights throughout the space, plus a sneak peek at company’s upcoming video game, ”Fear the Spotlight.”

Those who are brave enough can “boo-k” their stay at The Stanley Hotel’s website. The weekend package includes a two-night stay in a double occupancy room in The Lodge, an interactive Scare Experience, a complimentary welcome dinner, $100 credit toward breakfast or lunch at Brunch & Co., nightly screenings, and two drink vouchers for the Blumhouse Bar per guest.
