Is Apple Martin clapping back at the “mean girl” criticism?
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter seemingly addressed the social media backlash that followed her debut at Paris’ Le Bal des Débutantes last month in a new TikTok video shared by her friend Ava Crox on Monday, December 16.
Per E! News and the Daily Mail, in the since-deleted post, Apple and two friends can be seen mouthing along to a voiceover that says, “I don’t know how anyone has a problem with us, we are such a delight.”
The voiceover continues, “We are two of the funniest girls and I know us, like offline. When I tell you, there aren’t two more caring, charitable, generous, kind…”
Apple, 20, recently made her high society debut at Le Bal de Débutantes, dancing with her dad at the event, but it was a TikTok video that caused a stir on social media. In a clip shared by French magazine Paris Match, Apple and fellow débutante Aliénor Loppin de Montmort were spotted taking photos, with Apple confidently posing for the camera while standing behind Loppin de Montmort. This prompted a wave of social media backlash, including Apple being branded a “mean girl.”
Speaking to People earlier this month, however, Loppin de Montmort hit back at the claims and instead had nothing but kind words for Apple. “[Apple’s] genuinely the nicest girl ever! She really doesn’t deserve an ounce of what she’s getting,” Loppin de Montmort told the outlet. “She was the nicest girl ever towards not only me but all the debs!”
Among the other debs who debuted at the annual event this season were Sophia Loren’s granddaughter Lucia Sofia Ponti, Princess Eugenia de Bourbon and Sophie Kodjoe, the daughter of actors Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker.
Apple wore a blue Valentino gown featuring six dégradé tiers of silk plissé chiffon and cinched with a black bow, according to Vogue. It took creative director Alessandro Michele and his team 750 hours to craft Apple’s gown, which she paired with strappy, blue heels by the brand.
Both of Apple’s famous parents were in attendance at the glamorous occasion, as was her brother, Moses, 18.
Coldplay frontman Chris shared a slow dance with Apple as part of her introduction into formal society. Chris smiled and laughed while dancing with his daughter, according to a TikTok shared by Paris Match.
