Book fans have been waiting for this one for a while: The trailer for “Long Bright River,” starring Amanda Seyfried, has finally arrived.
The Peacock limited series, based on the bestselling thriller by Liz Moore, follows Mickey (Seyfried) a “police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis,” per a press release. “When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case.”
The novel tackles complicated families, the opioid crisis, and reckoning with your past — very similar topics to that of HBO’s twisty “Mare of Easttown,” to which creators are surely hoping this program gets a similar reception.
In a note to press, “Long Bright River” co-creator/showrunner Nikki Toscano wrote, in part, “perhaps what drew me in the most was the possibility of what this show could achieve in its ambition to upend stereotypes: of those born into poverty and addiction, of those engaging in sex work, of those who have been written off or marginalized after they’ve seemingly fallen through the cracks of their community, and finally, of those engaged in police work. In fact, what makes ‘Long Bright River’ so unique as a series is that it aims to deconstruct the ‘police as savior’ narrative — a journey pulled through our protagonist, Mickey Fitzpatrick.”
2025 will be a big year for Seyfried: In addition to “Long Bright River,” she will also appear in an adaptation of another bestselling book, “The Housemaid.” That film, directed by Paul Feig and also starring Sydney Sweeney, will hit theaters later this year. She’s also set to star in the mysterious musical “Ann Lee,” (already filmed) from “The Brutalist” team Mona Fastvold and Brady Corbet. Seyfried was last seen on television in her Emmy-winning turn as the infamous Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s “The Dropout.”
In addition to Seyfried, “Long Bright River” will star Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, and John Doman. Recurring guest stars include Dash Mihok, Britne Oldford, Matthew Del Negro, Harriet Sansom Harris, Patch Darragh, and Perry Mattfeld.
Beyond Moore, Seyfried, and Toscano, other executive producers include Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, and Amanda Lewis for Original Film; Amy Pascal for Pascal Pictures; and Russell Rothberg.
“Long Bright River” will debut all eight hour-long episodes on March 13, 2025 on Peacock.
