As 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days‘ Vanja Grbic shares more of her journey, she became one of my all-time favorite cast members. Vanja is a newcomer who appeared in the most recent season of Before the 90 Days but has had little-to-no success at finding love. Her 90 Day Fiancé franchise journey first started with Bozo Vrdoljak, a Croatian man she met online. They chatted for several months before she finally got the courage to fly abroad. Unfortunately though, Bozo didn’t feel any chemistry and they parted ways.
Vanja’s focus switched to Josko Luketin, who had his own set of red flags. Neither of the relationships worked out, and she ended the season the same way she began: single. However, despite these issues, I would love to see her in the franchise again. Compared to the past stars in the franchise, Vanja is different and has several qualities I think the rest of the crew can benefit from. Having Vanja reappear and introducing more stars of her caliber might just be what the shows need to step up and change the perception of the franchise.
‘Before the 90 Days’ Vanja Grbic Has a Unique Storyline
I’m well aware that 90 Day Fiancé isn’t a traditional dating series like Love Is Blind, The Bachelor, or Perfect Match. Even the 90 Day: The Single Life spin-off is not set up in that traditional format. In general, the 90 Day Fiancé franchise is for couples who have a small foundation and are ready to explore their connection. At first, Vanja fit into that storyline, but after Bozo gave her the runaround, she found herself left with two options: continue exploring connections in Croatia or go back home.
While many stars would choose to go back home, she stayed and enjoyed her time, which I thought was admirable. The storyline then highlighted her adventures with other men, adding a totally different feel to the show. Even on The Single Life, most stars go on to date Americans. Meanwhile, she stuck to the international storyline and embraced the changes as they came. This was a great change of pace that complimented the series well and I would certainly enjoy seeing more of it in the future.
’90 Day Fiancé’s Vanja Is Different From Previous Cast Members
Most of all though, I enjoy Vanja so much because she is obviously very different from the other stars. That applies to this season and past seasons. This season I watched stars like Rayne Fernandez force her beliefs or desires onto her partner. As a result, she destroyed a long-term bond. Similarly, the most tumultuous stars like Angela Deem and Jasmine Pineda would rather stick in a relationship and fight out their problems incessantly, only to still lack a resolution.
Vanja clearly has no interest in playing that game. She definitely tried to make it work with Bozo, but she realized quickly enough that his mixed signals were, in fact, a no and moved on. Vanja is an independent woman who supports herself, making her less susceptible to red flags and manipulation. While toxic relationships add to the chaos of reality TV, I loved watching a more wholesome and relatable storyline play out.
Overall, I think Vanja is a great representation of the type of cast members the 90 Day Fiancé franchise should showcase in the future. With season after season of toxic and manipulative stars, I really enjoyed watching someone with more self awareness blossom on the show. While she might not be in a relationship in order to secure her stay on one of the more traditional 90 Day Fiancé spin-offs, The Single Life would be a great place for Vanja to reappear. I only hope she continues to incorporate the international aspect and stays true to herself while she searches for the love she desires and deserves.
90 Day Fiancé and its spin-off series air on TLC, and are available to stream on Max in the U.S.
