Love Is Blind Season 8 released six episodes on Valentine’s Day, but many fans have noticed a major change in the reality show’s latest season. Love Is Blind won viewers over with its ingenuitive take on love with its debut back in February 2020. In Season 1, couples like Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton were already engaged and making their reveals by the end of the first episode. After about 4 episodes in the pods, the focus of the show switched to the couples’ honeymoon and then their weddings.
This format hasn’t changed in the first seven seasons, but this year fans noticed a major difference in Season 8. While most couples in previous seasons were on their honeymoon by episode 4, this year couples stayed in the pods until Episode 6, which was also all the episodes of the season’s initial release. Some viewers aren’t a fan of the change, since more drama seems to happen outside the pods. Meanwhile, other fans certainly enjoy watching the extra pod episodes. Either way, though, fans are wondering: why are there more pod episodes?
More ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8 Pod Episodes Weren’t Intentional
Season 8’s pod episodes last half the season, when in the past the couples would already be experiencing their honeymoon. In an interview with Variety, one notable comment the producers made about the pod episodes this year is that the extras weren’t intentional at first. According to Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen, they filmed all the interactions first. The camera crew starts in the pods, goes on the honeymoons, and prepares for the couples’ weddings alongside of them.

It’s not until everyone is settled that the producers and hosts start reviewing footage. During the review process, the hosts and production teams start choosing the couples and storylines they think are most important, have the most authenticity, and the couples they think fans would enjoy the most. As a result, the producers intended to have about the same number of pod episodes as previous seasons, but once they reviewed the footage, they realized there was more to share. They also felt was important for the series and the couples’ storylines.
More “Went Down” In ‘Love Is Blind’ Pods
After reviewing the Season 8 footage, the production teams came to a handful of conclusions. The first conclusion, according to Vanessa Lachey, was that “a lot went down” in the pods this year. Therefore, figuring out which scenes and couples to cut was more difficult this time around. This season they had more contestants than ever, and they told 16 stories, which is more than they’ve shared in the past. The extra number of contestants contributed to more episodes to accommodate their stories.
Their second revelation was realizing they didn’t focus on a couple who didn’t make it out of the pods. They also realized they hadn’t spent as much time highlighting the love triangles and squares, which played a large role in this show. However, for the show’s fifth anniversary, the production team stepped up. This season they included the love square involving Mason Horacek, Meg Fink, Alex Brown and Madison Errichiello, even though they didn’t make it out of the pods with anyone.
Overall, from this point of view, the extra Love Is Blind pod episodes make sense. Just the extra contestants alone probably messed with the ratio and then deciding which couples to feature probably wasn’t an easy task. However, the series is 10 episodes long with the last episode saved for the reunion. With six episodes focused on the pods, it seems like fans might miss out on the drama that occurs outside the pods, which is often the best part. While it was nice to have more insight into the pods, it would’ve been equally appreciated to have a few extra episodes of the couples outside the pods, so fans feel like they’re still enjoying the experience in its full entirety.
