Beth Behrs is giving insider details into Joan Rivers‘ behind-the-scenes personality.
The 39-year-old actress was Joan‘s assistant at the Geffen Playhouse when she was in college. In Beth‘s recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she opened up about the experience of working with the late comedian.
“She was not the Joan Rivers that you guys think. She was like a grandma. I saw her every morning, no makeup. She would be cooking me eggs. She’d be like, ‘Do you want a manicure pedicure? Let’s have someone come over, go pick out something from my QVC line,’” Beth said to Drew.

“It was night and day like persona. So maternal. The persona versus the woman that I got to know was just like amazing,” she added.
Beth also said that Joan paid for her trip to New York to help her experience her love of theater, and also gave her advice about how to break out as an actress.
“The first advice she had was on my first red carpet. I should trip because then all the press would be about me. I never did, but now I’m like, ‘she wasn’t wrong,’” she revealed.
Joan, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 81, also once gave Beth a creative dating tip.
“She also told me I should. vacuum with heels on around my future husband always, but she didn’t know like I don’t own heels really unless I’m borrowing them,” Beth said.
