Millie Bobby Brown is getting an apology from Matt Lucas.
Earlier this week, the 21-year-old Stranger Things actress put several critics and media outlets on blast for their “disturbing” comments about her appearance, accusing them of “bullying” her.
Millie specifically mentioned Matt, 51, who compared her to his Little Britain character, Vicky Pollard.
Keep reading to find out more…In his post shared on X, formerly Twitter, Matt shared a photo of Millie wearing a pink tracksuit with her blonde hair up in a messy bun, similar to the way Vicky would dress and present herself.
Shortly after Millie shared her message, Matt apologized and shared some context behind his joke.
“Dear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and provide some context,” Matt wrote on Instagram. “Nearly 25 years ago I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain. There was a character in it called Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top, and in the photo you had blonde hair and wore a pink top so I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases.”
The British comedian/actor continued, “I thought you looked terrific and I was mortified when the press wrote that I ‘slammed’ you, firstly because that’s not my style and secondly because I think you’re brilliant,” he continued. “I would not have posted it if I had thought it would have upset you but I realize it has and for that I apologize. Matt x.”
