90 Day Fiancé Season 11 is off to a wild start with six couples and one throuple. One of the newcomers to appear on the show is Stevi Savage and Mahdi Al-Saadi. Similar to other couples in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, the pair met online. Stevi, needing a little extra income, became an online English tutor. Mahdi was Stevi’s star student. He was attentive and always ready to learn. Mahdi would also arrive with a list of questions to make sure he understood the lesson correctly.
His open-minded attitude and willingness to learn attracted Stevi to Mahdi, but they didn’t form a more genuine connection until after they completed their lessons. After discovering a deeper attraction, the pair met in Turkey and spent one week together before getting engaged. Now Mahdi is in America and ready to marry the love of his life. However, there’s something about his character that has me rooting for their love story right from the beginning.
’90 Day Fiancé’s Mahdi Has a Child-Like Wonder
On the franchise, I’ve seen couples bicker and argue about cultural and religious differences all season long. For instance, in the case of Nicole and Mahmoud El Sherbiny, they struggled with everything: from attire, to drinking alcohol, to the types of friends Nicole had. Similarly, Nicole Nafziger and Azan Tefou argued over her dieting and exercising habits, as well as public displays of affection and money. When visiting someone else’s country and experiencing their culture, it’s normal to have some adverse reactions.
However, the stars in the franchise often seem to despise their partner’s culture or upbringing despite their differences bringing them together initially. On the other hand, that doesn’t seem to be the case with Mahdi. As Mahdi toured his new town with his fiancé, Stevi, he experienced what she even described as a “child-like wonder.” He explained in his confessional and to Stevi that in Iran, America is highly disregarded. So for him to see American pride in full swing was a culture shock, but in a good way.
’90 Day Fiancé’s Mahdi Has a Great Sense of Humor
Something I’ve realized over the years is that different cultures have distinct expressions or preferences. This includes humor and is especially evident in the 90 Day Fiancé: UK spin-off. However, learning more about their stars and soaking in their unique cultures is a huge reason why I love the show. But again, Mahdi differs from the majority of the cast because he seems genuinely in love with Stevi and excited to be in America.
As a result, his little quirks and humorous remarks are being revealed quickly, and I’m enjoying every bit of it. For example, Stevi has a cat and, in Mahdi’s culture, cats are dirty. In the past, other stars would have made demands regarding pets, like keeping them outside or nowhere near their bed. However, Mahdi was open-minded and even though he felt gross and like he “needed to wash his hands” after touching the cat, he was still willing to step out of his comfort zone.
Overall, Mahdi’s interest and clear enjoyment is a huge change from what I’ve seen in the franchise before. Coming from Iran, he’s used to seeing American culture destroyed and disregarded, but has been open-minded and shown graciousness during his initial arrival. On top of that, Mahdi has a great sense of humor, which might seem small. However, his humor coupled with his open-mindedness has already created a memorable storyline that has me believing this couple might have chances of succeeding in the long run.
