While having parents like Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson might give Dakota Johnson stellar DNA, her effortlessly stunning looks on and off the red carpet always impress. The Madam Webb actress typically opts for a natural, smokey-eye makeup look, and her healthy, radiant skin is often the star of the show.

We were more than curious when her makeup artist, Georgie Eisdell, divulged Johnson’s event prep routine and the products she used on the actress for the premiere of The Room Next Door. Eisdell, who works with famous faces like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston, shared via Instagram that Rationale skincare is a key part of the stunning looks she creates for Hollywood stars, including Johnson, and that she even used the serum ahead of the event.

“I wanted her skin to really glow,” the makeup artist revealed via the brand, noting that she then chose neutral hues for a soft glam look. “Skin prep is so important to every look I create. It helps calm the skin, gives me the perfect canvas for makeup, and takes care of any skin concerns my client may have. If the skin prep is great, the rest is easy.”

However, the serum is far from Rationale’s only must-have product. According to Eisdell, to get Johnson ready for the movie premiere, she first started with Rationale’s PreCleanse Balm, a moisturizing cleansing balm that restores skin barrier function. Then, she used the brand’s hero product, #1 Serum, to add radiance and hydration and strengthen the skin barrier. She followed up with the #2 Light Crème and the complexion-perfecting #3 Tinted Serum SPF, creating a seamless skin-prep routine that’s as easy as one, two, three. With this skincare combination, Eisdell pointed out, no heavy foundation is needed — which is the naturally pretty look we aspire to achieve.

What’s especially great about the daytime #1 Serum is that it’s rich in antioxidants and B-group vitamins, which help support immunity and skin barrier function. We also appreciate the use of botanical ingredients, including rose water, Aloe vera and olive oil, along with the fact that only a few drops are needed.

The #3 Tinted Serum Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ is another Rationale product we’re currently coveting. The daily skin protection and ability to even out skin tone is a no-fuss trick that comes in handy on minimal makeup days, and the fact that these products pair together to create luminous, hydrated skin is ideal for our busy lives.

If you’re looking for some new cold-weather skincare staples this holiday season, check out Rationale Skincare. Once on the site, you can even shop by skin concern — the system is surprisingly straightforward, whether you are battling hyperpigmentation, dryness or wrinkles. Get ready to achieve your own red carpet-worthy glow!
