It was a battle of the family movies at the box office this weekend!
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King were just released on Friday (December 20), and as predicted, they were the top two films that moviegoers flocked to theaters for.
However, the sequel came out on top over the Disney prequel!

Sonic 3 pulled in $62 million at the US box office in its opening weekend, while Mufasa brought in $35 million.
While Mufasa also debuted internationally, bringing in an additional $87.2 million, Sonic doesn’t open overseas until Christmas Day (December 25).
Landing in third place at the box office was Wicked, pulling in $13.5 million more at the domestic box office, bringing it’s global total to $571 million.
Disney continued a good streak with Moana 2, adding $32.8 million from 52 territories to it’s total, grossing $790.2 million worldwide!
