New April TV Releases — ‘The Last of Us,’ ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ ‘Andor,’ and More

A slew of television’s biggest titles are on their way faster than you can say “surprise!”, and I promise, this is no April Fools’ Day prank. Netflix’s Black Mirror returns for Season 7, Disney+’s Andor returns for Season 2, and something tells me Hacks‘ award-winning domination will continue once Season 4 of Max’s hit comedy drops. As for The Last of Us‘ second season, we don’t have to wait too much longer before we can catch up with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). And if you’re viewing palette craves more video game adaptations, you’re in luck: an animated version of Capcom’s franchise Devil May Cry arrives courtesy of Adi Shankar, a producer of Netflix’s Castlevania series.

Meanwhile, the truly legendary Shinichirō Watanabe, the director of such seminal anime as Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, takes us on a futuristic high-speed chase via his newest anime, Lazarus. Over on FX, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate lead Dying for Sex, a true story based on Nikki Boyer‘s podcast of the same name. Other new premieres include the Canadian comedy North by North and Kevin Bacon‘s horror-action-comedy mash-up on Prime Video, The Bondsman. Plus, the final seasons of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Netflix’s You.

‘The Death Coast’

In the series premiere of The Death Coast, self-proclaimed “shipwreck hunter” Captain Jeff Mackinnon and his crew dare the ocean’s countless dangers in order to find the remains of wrecked ships — and unearth any treasures that might lie within.

‘Devil May Cry’

The charming and sly Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch) uses his superhuman abilities to slay demons and everyone associated with their evil, but his past soon catches up with him in the form of his long-lost brother, Vergil (Robbie Daymond).

‘The Bondsman’

Speaking of devils: after his violent death and subsequent trip to hell, bondsman Fred Herbert (Kevin Bacon) is resurrected under the condition he becomes a bounty hunter for Satan himself. His targets? All those nasty denizens of hell.

‘Dying for Sex’

Devastated by the return of her metastatic breast cancer and encouraged by the unconditional support of her dearest friend (Jenny Slate), Molly (Michelle Williams) uses the time she has left to explore — and satisfy — her sexuality.

‘Lazarus’

Dr. Skinner (Koichi Yamadera, David Matranga) ruins Earth’s futuristic utopia when he blackmails the entire planet by not disclosing the worst side effect of his revolutionary new painkiller, Hapna: a lethal illness. Only he has the vaccine, and only an elite — and somewhat haphazard — task force can hunt him down.

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

The sixth and closing season of the first fictional streaming series to win an Emmy sees June (Elisabeth Moss) and the rest of the rebellion take their final battle right to Gilead’s doorstep.

‘Black Mirror’

A brand-new bunch of stars — including, but not limited to, Paul Giamatti, Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Peter Capaldi, Cristin Milioti, Awkwafina, Rashida Jones, Will Poulter, Emma Corrin, and Asim Chaudhry — discover the cruelly ironic truth powering Black Mirror‘s anthology world. No matter how tempting that flashy technology seems, there’s always an existential catch.

‘Hacks’
